Here is just a little quick money making tip for newbs. And I mean “newb” in the new player kind of way and not “noob” in the annoying idiot kind of way. This technique does not generate massive money… at least not for mid to high level member players. But it should provide a tiddy income for low level free players (level 10 and below) and help them get the nominal cash they require. Plus it will provide a little combat experience to boot. Best of all, this technique is available to free members and can be useful for members too.
Go after feathers. There is a chicken farm just north west of Lumbridge and one just south of Faladore. There is also one north east of Lumbridge on the other side of the River Lum. Killed chickens usually leave multiple feathers, bones, and meat. Best of all, feathers are stackable and only take up one inventory slot. In just fifteen minutes even a new player can collect as many as two hundred feathers. Feathers are very sought after as they are used a lot in fishing and fletching and to a lesser extent in other skills. They usually sell immediately on the Grand Exchange for 16 gp a feather. That is a quick thousand plus gold pieces in fifteen minutes. Yeah, that is piddly for higher level players, but the newbs can do quiet a bit with it.
While you are killing chickens make sure you collect the eggs [GEC 53 gp] that respawn in the same area. You can also sell the raw chicken meat for around 160 gp too. But eggs and meat will take longer to sell on the Grand Exchange than feathers. Also, if you are a true new player and very low level you might as well bury the bones [GEC 168 gp] and get the prayer experience while you are at it.
Anyway, that was just a little newb advice. If you want to make gold even more quickly, I would recommend collecting swamp tar (only available to members). Selling for around 256 gp each on the Grand Exchange, swamp tar can literally earn a player a small fortune in a short period of time.

One thing I like to repeat on a regular basis throughout this blog is that I am not an expert on making money in Runescape. But I do have several procedures I like that make me a tidy income. Bullseye Lantern filling is just such a technique. It’s not the best way to make gp out there, but it does provide almost a guaranteed 100% profit. Any way to double your investment is always worth mentioning.
I recommend buying unfilled Bullseye Lanterns on the Grand Exchange as opposed to making them from scratch. They sell for around 185gp. I buy around a hundred at a time and I usually do not have to wait at all for the sale to complete. To fill these empty lanterns you need to use swamp tar on a special still. Swamp tar can be easily and quickly collected in the Lumbridge swamps. But tar is also reasonably priced on the Grand Exchange for around 195gp.
There are two stills in the world of Runescape. One is located in Rimmington, but it is reasonably far away from a bank. The other still is in Dorgesh-Kaan . This still is ideal because it is very close to a bank, thus allowing for less time running and more time filling.
The filling process is tedious, but if you can get a rhythm going it will go by fairly fast. First you need to use the tar on the still. Then you need to use an empty lantern on the still. That’s it, you’re done filling the lantern. But remember a couple of things. Each of the steps have to be performed in order. Also, the still does not store oil so you can only use one tar at a time and then fill a lantern. It is also important to keep track of which lanterns you have already filled. An empty lantern looks identical to a filled lantern. I personally leave one slot open in my inventory and use it as a place holder between full and empty lanterns. If things go well I can go from the GE to Dorgesh-Kann, fill and bank a hundred lanterns, and teleport back to the GE in about twenty minutes.
Here is the financial break down of this procedure. A hundred lanterns and swamp tars cost 38k. Filled Bullseye Lanterns sell for 900gp. That means a hundred lanterns bring in 90k for a net profit of 52k.
The one major negative to this technique is that Bullseye Lanterns do not sell immediately. But they will sell eventually over the course of a few hours. I am happy to wait a few hour to collect my 52k profit from twenty minutes of work.
Note: As with anything concerning the Grand Exchange, prices listed in this blog are subject to changes in the Runescape economy.

A terrific way for beginners to make a lot of money (gp) quickly in Runescape is to harvest swamp tar from the Lumbridge swamp. The swamp is located directly south of Lumbridge Castle and the swamp tar is very abundant. Tar sells well on the Grand Exchange for [GEC 256 gp] a piece and is stackable so a player can spend all day harvesting without the need to run to the bank. Swamp tar spawns rapidly and I personally can collect about 8 lumps every minute. Harvesting tar is dull work, but the financial return is great for beginners and even higher level players.

Tar, as far as I am aware, is only available to members. Aside from the Lumbridge Swamp, it can also be found in the Mort Myre swamp and in buckets on the pirate ship to Lunar Island. Cave Slime is also known to drop tar. But the Lumbridge Swamp is the easiest and safest place to harvest.
